DST Ihsan Kasih doing beautiful things out of love

ICC, Berakas (5/7/2019) – With each Syawal, special individuals with different needs and abilities registered among Brunei’s known NGO’s are invited to celebrate the raya festivities with DST. This is one of the many projects part of the DST’s flagship community CSR, Ihsan Kasih initiative with the objective to do “beautiful things out of love”, and more specifically play a corporate citizen role in the community.

While the objective for DST is to experience a rewarding outcome by becoming an empathetic and contributing member of society, the long-lasting impact is felt by the individuals showered by the company’s social contributions. An annual figure of over 1,000 registered special needs students from centers such as Pusat Ehsan AlAmeerah Al Hajjah Maryam, the Special Education Unit from the Ministry of Education, The Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), Smarter, Pusat Bahagia/Eric Goh, and Learning Ladders are reached out to and invited as the guest of honours for these celebrations alone.

The month of Syawal allows DST to welcome the students with warmth and affection, while giving the children an opportunity to express their joy through singing, dancing and overall camaraderie at the celebrations which are annually organized district to district in Brunei.

Yesterday, DST ended its celebrations in the Brunei-Muara district in ICC, celebrating with over 500 registered students, their parents, guardians and teachers with special performances by the students of Pusat Ehsan, KACA and the Special Education Unit.

Despite the wide differentiation of abilities experienced by each individual student, there has never been a moment without smiles, joy, and laughter. DST’s role to provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere gives the special guests opportunities to express themselves, while enjoying the entertainment provided to them such as performances from DST staff and mascot appearances of their favorite character.

The last activity of the event was the contribution of green packets from DST presented by members of DST Senior Management led by Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Acting CEO of DST together with the lead representatives of the NGOs to the children accompanied by their parents and guardians.

Throughout the years DST has been able to and contribute to expanding the work of NGOs such as the building and renovation of SMARTER’s classrooms, education sponsorship for teachers in Pusat Ehsan, as well as reach out to actual individuals such as the contribution of hearing aids or financial support to families such as single mothers and their special needs children.

Ihsan Kasih is DST’s corporate social responsibility for the Bruneian society, which aims to give back to the community through programs for the less fortunate, orphans, special needs and other volunteer work.
