On 23 November 2017, DST International and SACOFA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic collaboration to bring international broadband quality to Sarawak resulting in the establishment of DSTA (DST Sacofa Telecommunications Alliance).  DSTA’s business objectives include the acquisition, management, maintenance or provision of network facilities, network service, applications service, and content applications service. This new development is expected to further boost the rollout of affordable high-speed broadband Sarawak.

DST, which has been the leading info-telecommunications provider in Brunei for more than 20 years will contribute its expertise and experience to the roll out of broadband services to the market.

Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni, Acting Chief Executive Officer of DST stated “DST is pleased to enter into Sarawak with the value it brings, not only to Sacofa as its joint venture partner but also extends to Sarawak, as a potential RSP (Retail Service Provider) player.

“We look forward to working together with Sacofa in realising the key objectives of our collaboration, that is to provide high quality and affordable broadband services in Sarawak.

“DSTA is also a platform for DST's first market expansion outside Brunei and we are excited to have built on our existing cordial bilateral relationship with Sacofa, as our platform for expansion. We hope this partnership can continue to enhance the good bilateral relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak.” he remarked.

Managing Director of Sacofa Mohamed Zaid Zaini remarked, “We are pleased with this collaboration with DST which reflects the good bilateral relations between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam. We greatly hope this joint venture with DST further fulfils the agenda of Sarawak-Brunei Darussalam Bilateral Cooperation Committee which we are a part of.

“We salute DST for making the bold move to enter the Sarawak market via DSTA. This collaboration draws on the strengths of SACOFA as an infrastructure provider and DST as a highly-reputable Retail Service Provider (RSP). By combining our complementing skillsets and experience, we are confident of good synergy to achieve our objectives which will ultimately benefit Sarawak.

“When we launched our proprietary FTTx solution SACOFA Open Fibre Infra Access (SOFIA) last year, we focused on ‘openness’ to allow RSPs to enter the Sarawak market using our turnkey platform. This open concept is in line with our corporate mission to promote sharing of facilities.
