DST meets with members of Brunei’s Legislative Council

DST Headquarters – A total of 12 members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) paid a visit to DST Headquarters in Tungku Link on Tuesday 23rd October 2018.

The guests were welcomed by Mrs Ang Siok Tuan for the Chief Executive Officer of DST. Also, present were members of DST’s Executive Committee.

The visit allowed the LegCo members to understand the issues related to telecommunications services in Brunei Darussalam, as a preparation for the dialogue session with the Ministry of Communications at the end of November this year.

In a presentation to the LegCo members, DST addressed the importance of moving forward to develop Brunei’s economy within the global context of the 4th Industrial revolution. This includes strategically steering the business towards digital transformation through investment in human capital development, the move away from legacy and traditional telecommunications infrastructure and systems, while upgrading towards a more innovative and diverse portfolio of digital systems, business models and the embodiment of a digital culture.

DST also presented improvements in coverage and connectivity as a step towards improving Brunei’s quality of telecommunications. To date, DST has over 200 2G sites, and over 300 3G and 4G sites with more sites planned to be rolled out each year. The new sites shall improve coverage across all districts especially rural locations.

The LegCo members listened to a briefing on the various imported transmission and smart devices approved by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam(AITI), before moving on to the Kristal FM radio station and DSTCare 151. The visit concluded with a tour of the DST Telecommunications Tower in Rimba, which transmits signals for network access to users in the surrounding areas.
